MicroHydro Dump/Diversion Load Air Heater Element
MicroHydro controllers have to use a different stategy to control the battery voltage at your battery bank. A PV controller can simply open the circuit to stop the charging and no harm will come to the modules. If a microhydro turbine is disconnected from the battery while still spinning, it will continue to generate power; but with no place to go, the voltage rises dramatically until something gives. With these types of rotary generators, you use a diverting charge controller. The controller diverts any excess energy after filling your battery bank into a dump load. A heater element is the most common diversion load but water dump loads are available as well.
It's nice to know that any power beyond what is needed to keep your batteries fully charged is going to heat your house hold.
Air Heater Diversion Load HL-100
These resistive loads are enclosed in vented aluminum boxes for saftey. They can be used on any DC system between 12 and 48 volts. Boxes needs at least 12" clearance from combustibles. The HL-100 can be configured for 30 or 60 amps nominal 12 volt mode. Two year manufactures warranty.
